I’ve been wanting to make wine gummy bears since I discovered on Pinterest a few years ago. Just never got around to it. Then on New Year’s Eve, The Winemaker suggested we taste some bottles of wine we (he) put up about a year ago. I’m always game for wine tasting.
Two of the three wines were delicious. One was ginger and the other blackberry. The third wine didn’t taste good to me so I didn’t even take a pic of it.
The ginger wine was super good and gave me the nudge I needed to finally make wine gummies. When I got off work the next day, I started researching recipes. The one I ended up using is from Cooking With Janica. The recipe requires three ingredients: wine, gelatin, and sugar. For equipment you’ll need a pot, a spoon/spatula to stir with, and silicone molds. A candy thermometer is optional. For the gummies to retain some alcohol, the temp of the liquid needs to stay under 90 degrees.
Here are some of my gummies sitting in the mold. The hardest part of the process was waiting for them to set.
Here are a couple of the semi-finished bears. I popped them out thirty minutes after I put them in the fridge. I just had to test them out. Looking at the pic, they kind of look like cats instead of bears. I will definitely be making these again.
